William J. Sheppard invited to speak on veteran’s rights at Federal Bar Association annual meeting
On September 20, 2012, at the invitation of the Federal Bar Association, Mr. Sheppard presented a seminar about representing combat veterans in federal criminal cases at the association’s annual meeting. Participants in the seminar learned how to present evidence in support of sentencing mitigations to veterans. The creation of veteran’s courts within the federal system was also discussed. At the seminar, Mr. Sheppard played a sentencing video he had preserved on behalf of a combat Vietnam Veteran, which resulted in a substantial downward departure of the veteran’s sentence. The video was so well received, Mr. Sheppard was asked if he would allow the video to be added to The Federal Bar Association’s website, where it can now be viewed.
